Accidental death claims the life of 13 year old Malachi Hemphill of Forest Park, GA.
On Friday, April 14, 2017 “friends” posted on social media in a matter of seconds, life to a graphic and upsetting turn for the worse.
The death of this child has spiraled in a media frenzy, making headlines nationwide. A group of friends stood by and saw the unfolding first-hand LIVE on Instagram.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Malachi Hemphill – stufent at Babb Middle School – had just taken the trash out for his mother. When he returned to his room, he locked his door. Then, the teen logged onto his Instagram account to live streem himself holding a gun in his room. Just moments after he started streaming, the unimaginable happened. During a new interview with 11 Alive, his mother Shaniqua Stephens recounting the sound of the gunshot she heard coming from her very own home. “I heard a big boom. I couldn’t tell if it was a gunshot or what,” Shaniqua exclaimed. “I just knew that it was something that was wrong.” Malachi Hemphill was streaming a video on Instagram Live when the gun went off. (INSTAGRAM)
Shaniqua and her daughter rushed upstairs to discover Malachi’s door locked. When they forced the door open, they made a harrowing discovery. “We kicked in the door. We found him just laying there in a pool of blood.” Stephens recounted. Her daughter also made another discovery. She noticed his phone was streaming. “My daughter screamed and said, “Mom turn his phone off!” As I proceeded to look at his phone he was on Instagram Live.”
According to several reports, an overwhelming number of Malachi’s friends witnessed the moments leading up to the shooting. Shortly after the shooting, others who lived nearby arrived at their home after witnessing the shooting. “There was about 40 to 50 kids outside,” she said. “I guess these were the kids that were watching on live that live in the area. I guess when it happened they just ran over here.”
Mourning the Death Of a Son: Needless to say, Shaniqua and her family are shocked and dismayed over Malachi’s untimely death. She also revealed the disturbing image of her son she’s been left with. “This is just a pain that will never go away,” she said. “He was my only son. He was just only 13. Just the thought of me seeing him on the floor will never leave my brain.”
Shaniqua Stephens and Malachi’s stepfather, Ernest Stephens are hoping their son’s tragic death saves the life of another child. She also has powerful words of advice for parents of other teens. “It can happen to the best parents…it can happen to the best people. The best ones that loved their kids, you know? “I just always let them know about situations and decisions,” Ernest said. The Forest Park Police Department has also released a public statement stressing the importance of monitoring children’s social media activity. The department admitted the tragedy has been difficult for everyone involved. The statement included a number of suggestions parents can take as protective measures to keep their children in the social media era. This is a horrific event for parents, children, and the police to deal with. We are asking parents to speak with their children about: The dangers of playing with guns, they are not toys. Telling a parent or other adult authority figure when they see or believe one of their friends has a gun they should not have. Telling or discouraging friends from playing with guns.
Parents should be aware of their children’s social media activities.
We are deeply saddened by this horrifying story. Our best to the families of the deceased!
Many people were introduced to the late Charlie Murphy via comedian Dave Chappelle’s comedy sketch show. Murphy and Chappelle gave fans many funny, memorable moments. Chappelle paid homage to Murphy at John Mayer’s concert by sharing that everyone in comedy was hurting.
Dave Chappelle Honors Charlie Murphy:
Dave Chappelle honored his friend and Chappelle Show cast member Charlie Murphy while making a surprise appearance at a John Mayer concert in Columbus, Ohio Wednesday. While welcoming Mayer to the Midwest, Chappelle and Mayer joked about their friendship and how they often hang out late. Telling John that he was a sight for sore eyes because he learned some heartbreaking news about the late Charlie Murphy. Referring to one of Mayer’s previous performances, he asked that the lights be sexier as Mayer began to play a song entitled, You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me.
Today, I got some terrible news, Chappelle said. My good friend, Charlie Murphy, passed away this morning, and everybody in comedy is heartbroken.
The comedian and Mayer reminisced about Murphy’s legendary “True Hollywood Stories” sketches on Chappelle’s Show. Dave shared how he originally asked Prince to participate in that sketch and he adamantly told Dave “No”. Later, Chappelle revealed that Prince wished that he had participated in the skit. They both shared how they loved Murphy’s phrase about Rick James as Charlie called him a “habitual line stepper”.
John, if you would, there was a night, maybe four months ago, where we were at Hotel Café in LA,” he said. “You were doing a show for 120 people. You went to the piano and you sang this song, and the song you sang that night reminded me of my friend, Charlie Murphy
As Mayer beautifully played, Chappelle shared that the world loved Charlie Murphy’s comedy, his stories, and his spirit. Asking the audience to put away their phones, Chappelle aspired to have the audience store a memory in their mind and not their phone. Of course, someone captured the moment on their phone and it was beautiful.
Famous in his own right, Charlie Murphy was the older brother of the legendary Eddie Murphy. He passed away on Wednesday in New York City at the young age of 57 after a battle with leukemia. A battle that Murphy withheld as many people did not know that he was suffering from cancer.
Prior to his stand out performance on Chappelle’s Show, Murphy worked as a stand-up comedian and acted in many movies such as CB4, Lottery Ticket, Player’s Club, Spike Lee’s Mo’ Better Blues and Jungle Fever. In working with his brother, he co-wrote Vampire in Brooklyn and 2007’s Norbit. After Chappelle’s Show, Murphy continued to tour and was slated to appear in the upcoming season of ” Power”.
Rest in peace, Charlie Murphy. You were so loved by many.

Whether you know him as “Wink” from back in the days, a businessman, We R One, balling on the courts or in high spirits; we have all seen happier days for the Ex-NBA superstar Steve Francis.
Here recently, he admitted to 1 count of driving while intoxicated stemming from a crazy Nov. 2016 arrest … but he ain’t going back to the slammer.
Francis appeared in a Houston courtroom Tuesday and pled guilty to the misdemeanor DWI charge. In exchange, he was ordered 3 nights in jail — but the judge gave him credit for time served so he won’t be returning.
He was also fined $1,000 and his driver’s license has been suspended for up to 1 year.
As we previously reported, Francis was initially pulled over in a black Chevy Tahoe for speeding — but during the stop, the cop noticed he reeked of booze. Francis was also verbally abusive and allegedly vowed REVENGE on the arresting officers.
Cops say they found weed — but that charge was dropped. Hey, it’s Houston!
What many don’t know about the ex-Baller is that he suffers from vertigo. Maybe this is setback will be a major comeback for DMV’s own.
Hopefully, Steve will get back to normal in no time, creating those Sparkle Moments!
Charlie Murphy Hid Illness Secret from ‘Power’ Cast and Crew
CHARLIE MURPHY KEPT CANCER FROM ‘POWER’ CASTMATES
4/12/2017 11:56 AM PDT
There is much to be said about television personality and brother of comedian Eddie Murphy. One thing that was a mystery to all is his battle with Leukemia. Charlie Murphy kept his battle with leukemia so private, most people who worked with him on “Power” had no idea he was sick.
Show producers — which stars 50 Cent — said they had no idea Charlie was dealing with cancer. We’re told he never told anybody on set and put in the work like everybody else.
Charlie played a prison guard named Marshal Williams on the show.
Family sources tell us Charlie only disclosed his cancer battle to very close friends and family members. It is said that he didn’t want his illness to define him.
Allegedly there were some family members who knew he was struggling but were shocked when he died … they didn’t know the situation was that desperate.
A rep Starz, where the show airs tells us, “Starz sends our deepest condolences to Charlie’s family and friends. He joined ‘Power’ for our upcoming season, and his talent shines in every scene. We were fortunate to have worked with him.”
Women are deprived of sanitary products, such as tampons and pads, leaving them to bleed all over themselves and suffer humiliation. Women are given 2 pads for the duration of their period. “Prisons control their wards by keeping sanitation just out of reach. Stains on clothes seep into self-esteem and serve as an indelible reminder of one’s powerlessness in prison.”
4 Rules to Email Organization and Getting your Email Inbox to Zero
Today I want to share my tips with you on email organization and taking back control of your email inbox. Email organization is so important in maintaining your sanity! So my goal is to help you organize your Gmail and keep your Gmail account clean through the proper approach to email management.
4 Rules to Email Management:
You should only be going to ONE place for your emails. This means you should no longer be logging into the 5+ different email accounts. Your goal is to just log into ONE place to receive all your emails. The best place to do this is Gmail. So your first step is to create a Gmail account.
Forward ALL of your current email addresses to this new Gmail account. Log into your current email addresses and forward them to your new Gmail account.
Create an unpublicized Gmail account. So this is a separate Gmail account that you will only give to very close friends and family, and for anything that you would like to keep private. Because ultimately the goal is to hire someone who can virtually help you manage your publicized account, and having private personal emails in that inbox is probably not your preference. So create an unpublicized email that you want to use for personal matters.
Create canned responses to the questions you get asked most frequently. Canned responses are amazing because it’s you responding in your voice, but from your virtual staff.
Let me help you! I don’t want what happened to me to happen to you. I’ll take you through, step by step, in the most basic tutorial, to show you exactly how to set up your online life so that your accounts are secure and you are protected. Lessons are short, anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes… totally doable and designed in a way to not overwhelm you! That is why I created SMART Virtual Systems, because I know this kind of stuff is overwhelming. But trust me, I can teach you how to protect yourself online and in addition you’ll learn how to organize all of your digital assets. Just click below for more info!
At the opening ceremonies of the 2016 International AIDS Conference, the actress, who founded the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project in 2007, asked the audience why so many people are still infected with HIV each year — and why so many still die of AIDS-related causes.
“The truth is, we have every tool we need to prevent the spread of HIV: condoms, PrEP, PEP, ART [antiretroviral therapy], awareness, education,” Theron said. “And yet 2.1 million people — 150,000 of them children — were infected with HIV last year. In South Africa alone, 180,000 people died of AIDS last year.” Theron’s figures align with those from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, or UNAIDS.
“The real reason we haven’t beaten this epidemic boils down to one simple fact: We value some lives more than others,” Theron said. “We value men more than women. Straight love more than gay love. White skin more than black skin. The rich more than the poor. And adults more than adolescents.”
“I know this because AIDS does not discriminate on its own,” Theron continued. “It has no biological preference for black bodies, for women’s bodies, for gay bodies, for youth or the poor. It doesn’t single out the vulnerable, the oppressed or the abused.
“We ignore them,” she said. “We let them suffer, and then we let them die.”
Glad to see celebrities using their influence on social issues such as this one.

Lopez plays Harlee Santos, a cop who has been forced by the FBI to work as a double agent, on the hit show.
On June 16, the “Booty” singer took to Instagram to tease fans about the show’s second season, writing, “Harlee’s baaaaccck… #shadesofblue#season2 #HarleeSantos #NBC.”
Lopez has certainly been juggling lots of work these days, in addition to her Vegas residency and work on the NBC series, she’s also voicing a character in Ice Age: Collision Course all while raising her twins, Max and Emme.
Life as an unsigned musician is frustrating to say the least; hours on end rehearsing, months in the recording studio, every last penny on promotional material and yet when it’s time to send out those all-important emails to the industry you can bet that replies will be few and far between.
Industry folk receive hundreds of emails every week and whilst many emails are no doubt overlooked, there are certainly a few things to avoid if you want to make yourself heard. The first thing to remember is that A&R guys, managers, promoters and booking agents are all normal people like you and I, it’s part of their job to find new music and so if you contact them with a personable, non-salesy approach you stand a much better chance of starting up a conversation.
I’m not really in the music industry myself, I run a booking agency for function bands, but still, I think the principle is the same regardless. Every day we receive emails from new bands and musicians in the events industry looking to join our books, we check out every single act that approaches us but unfortunately very few are up to the standard we’re looking for. This article is more about making sure that your email is read and that your work is heard in the first place, most of it appears to be common sense and yet a lot of people aren’t following the basics.
Be Personable in Your Approach
Rule number one is to be personable and approach the right people.
Sending out a blanket email with hundreds of people blind copied in (or worse, CC’d in!) is definitely a big no-no, if you haven’t got the time to send out a personal email then why should anyone be bothered to read it.
Do your research, find people in the same field as your music and write to them on their level.
Try to avoid sending emails to generic addresses such as info@, you want to reach the individual and it isn’t usually too hard to find out what their email is, for example,firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com is probably a good starting point. Using social media to message can work but I still think email is an important first point of contact, after all, Facebook messages will end up in the “other” folder of death and Twitter is all too easy to ignore due to the sheer mass of information available.
Don’t be a Salesman
Nobody wants to read an email that kicks off with a long rant about how good your band is, what your inspirations are and why you’re the next big thing; be confident and friendly in your opening line and for goodness sake, be “normal.”
HTML or flyer emails are a massive no-no, it comes across as spammy and in my opinion is the completely wrong approach. If I receive an HTML email my finger is so quick to hit the delete button that it barely even registers – that’s if the spam filters don’t get to it first.
Use the recipients first name, open with a line to introduce yourself, perhaps even mentioning that you’ve supported one of their bands or that you were passed on their info by a fellow musician or associate – having a mutual contact will definitely go a long way. Include a brief paragraph about yourself and why you think they might be interested, that’s the most you can do at this stage. The longer an email is the less likely the chances of it being read. Finally, check your spelling and punctuation. (Queue comments about my punctuation.)
Link to Soundcloud and Youtube
Avoid large attachments such as mp3s, it clogs up the inbox, takes time to download and is a general annoyance in the age of the cloud. Instead, include a link to your Soundcloud or Youtube page, whilst your website may be awesome, people generally like familiarity and prefer to visit a page that they can quickly access without the need to actually engage their brains.
Create Great Demos and Promotional Material
Promotional material is the key, you are essentially a brand and in order to sell yourself you need high quality photos and fully-produced demos – whilst lots of musically-minded people like to think they don’t need the production to recognize a good band or well-written song, I beg to differ; a great song is a great song but sometimes a good song can turn into a great song with a little bit of help in the studio.
Think about your target audience and help an A&R guy to visualize exactly what it is you’re trying to be, whilst you may have the outlook of “we just do what we do,” you can bet that they will need a clear plan of action if they’re going to pitch you up the chain of command.
Don’t Be Disheartened When You Get No Response
When you get no response to your well thought out emails it’s easy to assume that they aren’t being read but the truth is that 99.9% of music that gets sent out simply isn’t what that particular person is looking for. My advice is to continue to write great music, build your fan base and ignore the industry, they will come to you when the time is right.
Atlanta is the ideal city to be outside in. With such comfortable temperatures, plenty of sidewalk space, and greenery all around, this city makes for a highly desirable open-air live music scene. Atlanta also has several impressive indoor theaters, and the city boasts one of the most architecturally unique premises nationwide with its historic Fox Theatre. Join us as we delve into and assess the best venues for live music the city has to offer.
Chastain Park Amphitheater
‘No ceilings’ describes both the venue as well as the talent it draws on a seasonal basis. Playing host to some of the most eloquent artists Atlanta has ever seen (Elton John; Hall & Oates; Earth, Wind, & Fire; Neil Young), this musical shrine provides unforgettable nights under the stars and can make for the perfect couples evening. The arena is comfortably nestled within the Chastain Park area of Buckhead, surrounded by a golf course, Horse Park, neighborhood housing, and local tennis courts. Find a parking spot next to the park and take a pre (or post) concert stroll – all of the aforementioned spots are well within walking distance of the amphitheater itself.
On the edge of downtown, the Fox Theatre acts as midtown’s historic centerpiece for live performances. Once a vaudevillian movie palace, the Fox was nearly removed in the 1970s to make room for a corporate office. But, alas, the wondrous, Moorish-designed edifice was saved by native Atlantans keen on preserving the amazing décor and inner design, which boasts an organ consisting of 3,622 pipes (second only to Radio City Music Hall’s organ in New York) and an Arabian ceiling mural of the night sky. This venue is truly one-of-a-kind and is absolutely not to miss.
Formerly a Baptist Church, the Tabernacle building is shrouded in historical couth. Standing for over one hundred years, the 1910 building has seen renovations several times over to accommodate its sizable crowds. The venue now houses thousands on a nightly basis as famed artists take the stage in downtown Atlanta’s most popular musical scene. Allot time for parking, theater entry, and seating when arriving to a show here; the venue is known for its packed house events and much awaited shows.
When searching for a more intimate, lesser sized venue, look no further than Little Five Points prize, the Variety Playhouse. This inconspicuous pearl has showcased some of the indie scene’s biggest and best, years before their success on the mainstream scale. Artists like Vampire Weekend (back in 2008) often select Variety Playhouse as the perfect performance spot and thereby kindle long lasting fans from such shows. Located smack in the center of one of Atlanta’s most eccentric and unique areas (Little Five Points), the concert venue is much more than a local favorite – to many, it’s the best live music venue there is.
Unquestionably an East Atlanta favorite, the EARL is another fantastic venue for alternative acts and an intimate live music experience. Serving hearty bar food and a wide range of cocktails and draft beers, the restaurant and bar has turned into more of a music club over the years, but it maintains its culinary acumen nonetheless. Interestingly enough, the actual bar top is constructed of a tree that fell on the property years ago. There’s never a dull moment here; the EARL is an ideal Atlanta spot for dinner and a show.
Right in the backyard of Atlanta’s posh Buckhead bar area, Buckhead Theatre stands up to its surroundings quite well. The renovated structure has champion accommodations, including a stylish carpeted lobby and bar, impeccable lighting and sound specifications, and an elegant upper balcony inside the theater itself. The location is walking distance from a bustling bar district – a huge bonus for any thirsty attendees looking for some late night fun. Flush to the street, Buckhead Theatre has a tantalizing façade and an inviting feel. Make sure to stroll in for a show sometime soon.
This highly versatile venue is home to a wide variety of the performing arts. Ballets, operas, and musical concerts – the Cobb Energy Centre has it all. Erected in 2007, the building is very new, and it’s easy to tell: the elaborate auditorium features an extensive seating arrangement, with a full orchestra pit and several protruding balcony areas. The acoustics have been mastered so that regardless of seating, you are sure to enjoy the audiovisual experience at hand. Admire the ballroom chandeliers and silken-carpeted entrance as you make your way inside.
Though it’s been out since 2011, Snapchat is still relatively unknown. That’s a shame because it’s a tool that can come in really handy especially for event planners. If used the right way, it can really foster engagement among followers and create some much needed hype.
More marketers, however, are beginning to catch on, as is the general public. As of May 2015, there are an estimated 100 million active daily users. Furthermore, roughly one in five social media users also use Snapchat.
Read more on how event professionals around the world are incorporating social media tips and trends into their event marketing and attendee engagement.
Snapchat Best Practices
Provide a First Peek
Remember, Snapchat is distinguished for its “one-time view” feature. Once opened, content can be viewed only once and usually for a duration of only 10 seconds before it self-deletes. How might you be able to take advantage of such a concept? One way is to provide an insider’s look into a product or service.
If your event is unveiling a new product, for example, then you can use Snapchat to provide a sneak peek of the product. Since viewers only get a one-time look, they’ll be debating about it on social media about what the new product is, how it works, how it differs from previous products, etc. This kind of gives the item an aura of mystery that encourages online discussions.
Provide a Behind-the-Scenes Look
You can also take a page out of Hilton’s playbook and use Snapchat to provide a behind-the-scenes look. To promote its Live Nations concert series, which provides live entertainment to reward program members,Hilton used Snapchat to unveil behind-the-scenes snippets of some of its concerts.
This included one with Jason Derulo during his performance at San Diego’s Hilton Bayfront. The goal was to target millennials and get them to sign up for the company’s loyalty program, which is made up primarily of older members.
You can do the same. Granted, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to get celebrities on board for your event. Nevertheless, you can still use Snapchat for providing a behind-the-scenes look, which can include a look at board meetings, venue scouting, or backstage happenings from a previous event.
Make a Game Out of It
Find a way to make a game using Snapchat. Heineken did this to perfection. In collaboration with the Coachella festival, the beer company sent out cropped images on Snapchat, which included obscured photos of celebrity performers.
The image revealed a surprise performer scheduled to perform at the Heineken House, the company’s performance stage for the festival. Snapchat users that were able to correctly decipher the image and identify the performer were rewarded with a confirmation of the star’s identity and details of the performance.
You can use Snapchat to create your own guessing game. Perhaps provide an image or emoji relating to a company product or service. Participants that guess correctly within a set number of tries will be rewarded with a small prize, such as a discount code.
Incorporate It into a Contest
Social media contests are a tried-and-true strategy for encouraging consumer participation. Snapchat can be used in one way or another.
Here’s one example: create a word scramble game consisting of multiple rounds that progress in difficulty. For one of the later and more advanced rounds, the scrambled words can be sent via Snapchat, and participants only get a brief look before it automatically deletes.
Of course, players can cheat by taking a screenshot or snapping a photo of it with their mobile phone. That’s fine if they do that; what’s important is that you create some sort of contest that generates engagement. Those who successfully complete every word scramble round will, of course, be the winners and receive some sort of prize, such as a free event ticket.
Take Advantage of the “Our Story” Feature
“Our Story” is a feature designed specifically for events. It allows planners to send live content right as their event is in progress. When you enable this feature, users present at the event can join in and submit their own image or short video from the event and share it with their own followers.
That is a lot of free marketing right there courtesy of your own guests. If you’re going to use Snapchat, then it doesn’t make sense not to milk this feature.
Don’t Ignore Snapchat
If you’re already using prominent social networks like Facebook and Twitter, then you might as well incorporate Snapchat while you’re at it. It’s just another tool in your arsenal that you can add for acquiring more publicity for your event.

There are many more important topics that should be up for discussion right now, and I understand that. The topic of race seems to be a hot button issue in recent months, and though it can be uncomfortable, it can also be eye opening. A good friend of mine once asked why I chose to live in ignorant bliss. My answer was and is still simple; why choose to see all of the bad in the world or go look for it. I see ugly on a regular basis, I don’t have to search it out.
As a black mother of three, I have heard pretty awful things. I worry about things that other mothers don’t worry about. I also have a strength that is unmatched because of these awful things. I have been asked straight out, the following questions, and statements. They did not sugarcoat for me or my children, so I won’t sugarcoat for you. “Do they all have the same daddy?” “Why did you have so many kids?” This one is most recent, by my sons 1st grade teacher. “I know you have a bunch of other kids at home, so maybe one of them can help with his homework.” “It’s a shame black men don’t stick around. You could use some help.” You get my point. All I can say is people can be rude. I don’t condemn a whole race, because some people of that same color are ignorant.
As a black mother of three, these are some of the thing I have heard. “I don’t know why they have so many if they can’t afford them.” That was said while I walked through J.C. Penny. I have even heard “she has a Louis Vuitton, but I’m sure she has a food stamp card too” while I was in line to check out at Wal-Mart. People really should learn how to be better whisperers. Were my feelings hurt in these situations? Absolutely, and everything wanted to boil over. I wanted to yell and tell them how ignorant they were, but I didn’t. I pretended I heard nothing and went on about my way. As a black woman I often feel I don’t have the right to display my outrage in a very therapeutic yelling session at the wrongdoers. If I yell at them, it will only continue to perpetuate the stereotype as an angry black woman.
My kids are happy kids, but when in public, they are on their best behavior, so they don’t acquire the label of “that bad black kid.”
When I was younger, I learned from the words my mother didn’t say. I learned from the actions I saw her taking. I learned from the conversations I overheard or the hushed comments between whomever she was speaking to. My mother demanded respect from us, inside and outside of the home and one phrase that she would repeat throughout my childhood was “y’all can’t be acting like these white kids in the store.” That may not be the exact phasing, but it was very close to that. When people see toddlers throwing fits in the store, the reactions from others are different between the races. If the child is white, people may giggle or smile, saying something along the lines of “she’s got her hands full.” When it’s a child of color throwing the tantrum, the reaction is markedly different and you get comments like I mentioned above.
As a mother of two black boys, I have to be extra vigilant in making sure they understand how their presence can make people feel threatened, while at the same time help them understand they have value. I have to have a conversation with them when they get a little taller about how they will “fit the description” most of the time, and how to react when they do. Sometimes the reason for being pulled over is because you’re brown and the sad truth is, if you don’t act in a manner that is completely compliant, you can get a jolt of a Taser or worse. As parents our goal should be raising a boy in America, not raising a black boy in America or a (fill in the blank) boy in America.
I know that racism is and always will be a sensitive topic and most of us like to pretend that it doesn’t exist anymore. It does exist. I myself like to live in my ignorantly bliss bubble and pretend that racism is something of the distant past, but if you would like to find out if it’s as dead as you believe it to be, take a moment to look up a couple of things. The first thing I would suggest, is looking up “sun down towns” take note of where these towns are, you may be surprised. Another thing to look up is “disproportionate representation” in the department of human services and department of corrections in your state. Black and Hispanic kids are more likely to be overly reported for abuse and/or neglect, less likely to be placed back in their homes and less likely to be adopted. This means, a large group of these kids are being removed from their homes to grow up in the foster care system. Sadly not all of the kids put in this system even go to foster homes. They are placed in group homes or other residential settings. These are things people should be educated on. Different cultures parent differently and the colored representation in the department of human services portion is unjustly skewed. This is something I witnessed with my own eyes and it broke my heart every time.
My kids are happy kids, but when in public, they are on their best behavior, so they don’t acquire the label of “that bad black kid.” My kids speak properly, because I don’t want them treated any differently because they “sound black.” I do everything in my power so they don’t acquire any negative stereotype, knowing no matter how hard I try they will still be labeled, because I am. I was raised in a white neighborhood, have a college education, was married to my children’s father for 14 years, but I am a black mother of three. The last thing I said is the first thing they see.

When I need to have a very productive day, I tell myself it’s going to be easy. I am really good at that part!
I’ll just wake up early, grab a big cup of coffee, and then begin powering through my to-do list. Maybe I’ll break for a meal, or a stretch, or a quick conversation with a coworker. But I’ll truck on, energy unwavering until bedtime, where I’ll promptly fall asleep for eight, wonderful, uninterrupted hours of sleep.
Cool fantasy, self. Real life rarely (if ever) is that picture-perfect. Our bodies aren’t designed to operate at a constant 100% efficiency level.
So if you want to be more productive throughout the day, you’re better off relegating certain activities to certain times, and devoting yourself to doing those activities at those times.
And to make sure you get the right things done at the right times of day, you can lean on a plethora of different free or relatively cheap apps and tools. (After all, some things are better together.)
Below, are some of the highest-rated and often-recommended productivity apps for each part of the day. Check ’em out, and find your “and.”
Great Apps That Will Keep You Productive Morning, Noon & Night
Price: Free, with subscriptions available on iPhone, Android, Web
Starting your day off with a quick meditation session can be a great way to gear up for the day — even scientists say so. According to a 2012 study, people who mediated “stayed on tasks longer and made fewer task switches, as well as reporting less negative feedback after task performance.”
Sold … but not sure how to get started? I’d highly recommend downloading Headspace. It gives you 10 free guided meditation sessions, and if you end up getting hooked, you can sign up for a monthly subscription.
Price: Prompts is $2.99 on iPhone; Writing Challenge is $1.89 on Android
You may have heard about the benefits of writing something — anything — in the morning. But actually making morning freewriting a reality can be a challenge. How do you actually find something to write about when you’ve barely had time to make your coffee?
Why, by downloading a writing prompts app, of course. Prompts and Writing Challenge are both great options. They give you a jumping-off point for a piece, and then let you dive right into writing. Prompts is especially cool for folks who like to track their habits to stay motivated because it offers some basic analytics for you to analyze your writing habit progress.
Price: Free, with premium subscriptions available on iPhone, Android, Web
You don’t have to actually write your to-do lists in the morning, but you should definitely take a look at them before you dive into your work. And if your to-do list is cluttered and confusing, you’ll end up losing precious time to reorganizing and reprioritizing it.
To prevent that from happening, I’d highly suggest a tool like Todoist. Lindsay Kolowich recently introduced it, and it’s completely transformed the way to keep track of what you need to accomplish. It allows you to add deadlines and labels to each list item, and then automatically sorts your whole to-do list by what you have to accomplish that day. This helps you keep you on top of what you need to accomplish in a given day, and prevents you from getting sidetracked by down-the-road projects.
Price: Free, with premium subscriptions available on iPhone, Android, Web
After you set your own to-do list, chances are, you’ll need to check in with your teammates about what’s on their plate for the day. One super easy way to do this — especially when you have a remote team — is by using an app called Jell.
Instead of calling a 30-minute meeting to debrief on what everyone’s doing, you simply fill out a form in Jell and it gets sent to the rest of your team. (If you’re using Slack, it has a handy integration to have these messages posted in there, too.)
Price: $10/month on iPhone and Web; Android coming soon
Fast-forward a few hours, and chances are, you’ll have a block of meetings on your plate. (That is, after all, the best time of day to have them.) But if you’re going to take time out of your day for meetings, they’d better be productive. There’s nothing worse than wasting a bunch of people’s time on something that could be handled over email.
Yep, a tool can help you with that too. Do can help you keep yours more organized and actionable — that way, no one’s wasting time sitting in unnecessary meetings. If you’re looking for a free option, Solid (available on Web only) is a great choice.
Price: Free, with premium subscriptions available on Web
When your attention starts to wane, it can be hard to get things done. For many people, that tends to happen in the afternoon.
Turns out, this can be a good thing: When you’re less focused, you have more room to be creative. So the afternoon is a great time for brainstorming, collaboration, and breaking through cognitive barriers.
If you and your team are feeling particularly creative one afternoon, a great tool to consider using is Stormboard. It allows everyone to easily brainstorm and collaborate — even if they aren’t in the same room. Then, you can prioritize the best ideas to be put in action at a later date.
But what if you’re not focused or feeling creative? You’ve got to get work done, but you’re feeling … stuck.
Unstuck can help. It’s an app that acts like an in-the-moment personal coach. It’ll ask you a series of questions to unearth what exactly is blocking you, and then give you steps to get through that block. Having this “outside” perspective can be a game-changer to breaking through some seriously inhibiting time-sucks.
Price: Quartz is free on iPhone; Inside is free on iPhone, Android, Web
When you’ve been in the weeds all day getting important projects done, it can be tempting to take some time to catch up on what you missed in the news.
The trouble is, those reading breaks can sometimes get unruly. That 15 minutes you thought would be enough turns into 45 minutes of reading, and you’re suddenly late for your train home.
To feel in-the-know about the day without breaking your productivity streak, try catching up via your favorite news summary app. Mine is from Quartz: It’s a chat-themed news summary app that’s quickly become a staple of my phone’s home screen. A few quick clicks, and I’m on my way to catching a ride home.
Everyone has their favorite time of day to work out, but science says that your lung function peaks around 5 p.m. So if you want to squeeze in a quick workout sometime in your day, right before dinner might be the trick.
If you don’t have a regular routine or are just trying to do something fast, I’d recommend checking out J&J’s 7 Minute Workout app. You can pick from their programs or design one of your own, and all can be done in less than 30 minutes.
Price: Podcasts is free on iPhone; Sticher is free on iPhone, Android, Web
Chances are, you’ll have spent most of your day looking at things. Reading on the computer. Watching slides on the projector. Scanning news on your phone. So when you leave work, you should strengthen one of your other senses, such as your listening comprehension. It’s an underdeveloped skill — especially in adults — but it can have huge a huge on our professional and personal lives.
If you want to strengthen your listening skills, try playing a few podcast episodes on your phone on your commute home. If you have an iPhone, you have a Podcasts app already built in. Otherwise, you can access them through Stitcher.
If you don’t love the idea of actually penning your ideas and experiences to paper, you can use Grid Diary or Journey. Both allow you to not only capture written recaps of your day, but also add photos to your entries. Plus, they both have built-in prompts — so even on the most hectic of days, you can distill some insights for your future self.
Price: $4.99 on iPhone; Free with in-app purchases on Android
Finally. You’ve made it through the day and kept yourself productive all the way through. You take a moment to celebrate … but then realize that tomorrow’s to-do list is already jam-packed. You need a good night’s sleep, and you need it now.
Sleep Genius might be the cure. The app has built-in relaxation techniques and gentle alarms to wake you up at a natural moment in your sleep cycle, helping make sure you feel rested come morning.
After all, if you’re feeling sluggish the next day, even the best apps might not be effective. (But that cup of coffee might do the trick.)
What are your favorite productivity tools for different times of day? Share with us in the comments.
Over 6,000 years ago,
God seated majestically on His throne,
T’ was a feeling of inadequacy,
‘I must have an heir to who can enjoy his own domain,
(Of course with my privileges at his disposal,
His continuous praise will be my delight)’,
God thought of man becoming the
Focus of their attention from heaven,
Like the first child of a young couple,
‘What’s my glory without man’, he wondered,
Then a casual walk he took,
Throughout the universe he had created,
Then at planet earth he made up his mind,
To transform the shapeless and void dark earth,
Into a place of life and light,
Then at last God spoke,
‘Let there be light’,
His man will be a product of light,
God paused, and named at work done,
The first day.
First days followed
God’s preparation for man continued,
Each day speaking the WORD to create,
The earth, He made,
The sun for day, season and yearly count,
The seas, rivers, sky and earth he filled,
With creatures, fishes birds and beasts,
Every creation capable of reproducing itself,
All for the comfort of man and to dominate,
Then came the 6th and most glamorous day,
The reason for all the works and expedition,
The day for God to reproduce Himself onto the earth,
And God spokes, this time to His son and spirit as well,
‘Let us make man in our image,
To commune with us daily’,
For this venture in particular,
They employed the use of their hands
Thus on the 6th day man came into being,
The 1st father entered the world to rule,
He named everything that was made,
‘Noun’ thus becoming synonymous to man,
Indeed all was very good
And on the seventh He rested.
O the depth of the riches both the wisdom and knowledge of
How unsearchable are His judgments and His
Manifestations beyond discovery
We give all the glory to our Almighty Father in Heaven,
He has made man heroes and we are proud to be His.
FOR crowned man with glory and honor,
As we celebrate all fathers today,
We dedicate today,
To the father of all fathers, Jehovah is His name.
Today thus also becomes ‘Happy our Heavenly father’s day!!!

People are born everyday, so there is always a reason to celebrate…right?! Well, it just so happens that on this day someone I love was born so I couldn’t think of a better way to send them my gratitude. When you are far away from loved ones, this is an exciting and very modern way to extend your love or thanks. In doing so I gathered that there may be some folks who are like me and didn’t know exactly how to do so. Here is what I have found:
Facebook, which introduced “friending” as a verb, has, by sheer volume, inundated us all with a new one, “gifting.” There are multiple ways to give gifts this holiday season using Facebook.
Facebook closed its official “Gift Shop” in 2010, and it has recently brought it back into the official fold, with a new twist. You can access Facebook gifts from the Facebook App Centeror by going to Facebook.com/Gifts Click the big green “Give a Gift” button.
Just choose a friend. Then choose a gift. Pay now or later. You can keep your gifting private or share the news on your Timeline. You can also send a card along with the gift. Your Facebook friend will be notified about the gift just as they would be if you wrote them a message — via their phone, email or Facebook page. Facebook said it has hundreds of gifts to choose from such as a digital gift card from Starbucks.
Similarly, Facebook announced a coming soon feature to make charitable contributions with 11 non-profit partners, including the American Red Cross, the Boys and Girls Club of America and Livestrong. Each time you buy a charitable Facebook Gift, you have the option of choosing a non-profit recipient or letting your friend you’re gifting choose – a new twist on making a charitable contribution in the name of in lieu of a gift.
A secondary goal of gifts — beyond raising money — is to spread awareness of the work of non-profit organizations. However, as is usually the case, sometimes the best uses of a platform’s capabilities are found from third-party developers, such as Giftwhip, or two mobile apps: Treater and Wrapp.
With Treater, the list of gifts that can be instantaneously redeemed with a smartphone grows to include games of bowling, movie tickets and spa treatments. All users need to gift a Sweet Treat or Good Grub item is a Facebook account. The gifting process starts with picking the recipient from your friend list. Pick the item you wish to send and pay the item’s listed price with a credit card. There’s a $.50 processing fee for items below $5 and a $.99 fee for gifts under $19.99. All items that cost more than $20 will incur a 6% processing fee. A public Facebook prompt will alert the recipient of the gift. Friends can also include a personal message along with the notice. To claim the gift, the recipient can show the cashier the “Treat Card” sent to their smartphone.
For Android or iPhone devices, Wrapp will send free gift cards to your favorite friends, posting directly to their Facebook Wall. What makes this app different from others is its calendar function, which automatically pulls birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, new moves and other reasons to celebrate directly from Facebook. The variety of Wrapp gifts makes it an app you can use for everyone you have to shop for, including gift cards from retailers like H&M, Zappos, SpaFinder, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Sephora, Gap, Office Depot, Threadless and more. The Wrapp news feed updates you as to when your gift is received and redeemed, ensuring your Wall post is seen by its intended audience.
What makes this app even more fun is the collection of gift cards you can amass from your friends in your Wallet, making redemption easy without having to print a gift certificate. Wrapp gift cards can be redeemed in person at some retail stores and online. Funds from your gift card are available immediately upon receipt, so there is no need for your recipient or you to delay the benefits of being a Wrapp user.
Hopefully, you have gained value from this article and will use Facebook gifting the next go round! When you do, be sure to send us a snap shot of your fun gifting experience on Facebook.
The Redskins figure to have one of the best passing attacks in the league this year with the addition of rookieJosh Doctson, a more developed Jamison Crowder, a growing star in Jordan Reed, a returning sure-handed vet in Pierre Garcon and the now more durable speedster in DeSean Jackson.
And yes, the latter descriptor is something of a change. DeSean Jackson mentioned last week on “Redskins Nation” that he has his durability on fleek, considering he missed much of training camp and then most of the season with a hamstring injury he suffered in the season opener.
Then consider that Jackson has an extra incentive to stay on the field and make even bigger plays this season. His son, DeSean Jackson Jr., is just seven months old at this point, but he’s already made a major impact in the way Jackson approaches this year.
“Quite frankly, I didn’t think [parenting] would be this cool,” he said at his annual Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Classic on Saturday. “That dude turns me into a different person, different player, motivates me to go out there and just want to do great for him.”
Jackson missed most of the voluntary OTA workouts over the last few weeks, spending more time with his son and the rest of his family, including his mother and grandmother, in California.
“You hear the reports that I forfeited my workout bonus, and would have loved to be here,” Jackson said. “But my family is something on the other side of the spectrum that pays off big, too.”
It’s hard to blame him. During the season, the schedule is such that it prevents Jackson from taking long trips across the country. As his son grows, he wants to be part of that development as much as he can be, without sacrificing the team’s cohesion.
“It good because he’s active and I remember my mom always getting on me for not being able to sit still so now it’s like I get to relive that all over again with my son,” Jackson said on “Redskins Nation.” “He’s jumping off walls at seven months. He’s standing up on his own, he’s crawling everywhere and try to hold him and sit still but he’s just moving everywhere. It’s a blessing and I’m happy to be a father for the first time.”
As he participates in minicamp this week, he will keep Jr. on his mind, because playing well isn’t just about his own ego anymore. He wants to ensure a legacy.
“I’m very dedicated, I always have been losing my dad at a very young age,” Jackson said. “But now [it’s about] having a son and knowing everything I need to do to make him be able to be close to me or better.
Stacey Dash really is clueless! Seriously, who writes her checks besides BET (Black Entertainment Television)? We’ve been trying to figure out her “Clueless” political thing. Now, she’s going after President Obama and Democrats… Repeat offender!
The former 90’s sweetheart-turned-clueless and controversial political queen, let her Twitter fingers do
all the talking yesterday in the aftermath of the 49 people who were tragically murdered by terrorist, Omar Mateen, in what is now dubbed as the Orlando mass murder. It isn’t our place to judge at TSP. Your political beliefs and affiliations are your own. However; we do judge ignorance and insensitivity. Stacey Dash shows ignorance and insensitivity as she took to Twitter and somehow found a way to imply that Mateen is a representation of Democrats and that his actions are President Obama’s fault. Truth be told, Ms. Dash has pockets of intelligence, but her statements are oftentimes clouded with inaccurate information and misguided perceptions. So there’s not much we have to write about this, because this “Clueless” star’s tweets speak for themselves.
Wait, there’s more…
The Donald responds…
This isn’t a bash at Dash, we just want her to catch a clue!
Within the next five to ten years, it would probably be possible to make a new infective micro-organism which could differ in certain important aspects from any known disease-causing organism.
MacArthur claimed the disease would be resistant to “the immunological and therapeutic processes upon which we depend to maintain our relative freedom from infection and disease.” And testified it would require $10 million to develop.
AIDS first surfaced within MacArthur’s estimated “five to 10 years” and is the only disease to fulfill the definition.
The first cases of AIDS were traced to gay men in 1979 Manhattan—3-years before the African epidemic was recognized in 1982—countering claims it originated in there.
KS was labeled the “gay cancer” and reported to also originate from a primate virus jumping species in Africa.
A 1974 government initiative encouraged gay men in Manhattan (especially promiscuous ones) to participate in an experimental hepatitis B vaccine being developed by Merck and the National Institute of Health
Tens of thousands of gay men were screened and 1,083 of them were subsequently selected to test the vaccine.
Beginning in 1978, groups of gay men were inoculated at the New York Blood Center.
The hepatitis B studies extended to clinics in San Francisco in 1978.
By 1980 additional clinics in Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago and St Louis were also seeking participants for similar programs
The vaccine was made from the combined blood of 30 gay men who carried the hepatitis B virus.
During development it was injected into chimpanzees known to be infected with the simian cancer causing SV40—The same virus that contaminated the polio vaccine between 1955 and 1961
By December 1981, 121 people in the USA had died of AIDS with victims hailing from San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles.
The dead would have been infected at least 2-years prior, ie: 1979—none of them had ever been to Africa or eaten primates
No blood stored anywhere in the U.S. prior to 1978 had tested positive for HIV or the KS virus.
Before 1978 there were no cases of AIDS and no cases of Kaposi’s Sarcoma recorded.
20% of the gay men who volunteered for the experiment in NYC were found to be HIV positive in 1980—a whole year before AIDS was officially recognized in 1981
By 1984 over 40% of NYC gay men were found to be HIV positive.
20% of samples taken in 1982 tested positive for KS2 herpes-8 when re-tested in 1999
The hepatitis B vaccine proved to be a success—protecting 96% of the men—however the vaccine was contaminated
Summertime schedule is all set now that there’s been news that Power is moving to Sunday nights for its third season on Starz.
In a move that shifts the show from its regular Saturday evening timeslot, TSP has learned that the Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson-produced drama is set to premiere Sunday, July 17, and will include 10 one-hour episodes – although whether that proves long enough for James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) to get out of the crime game remains unseen.
“This club, this life — this is who I am now,” drug dealer turned nightclub owner Ghost emphasizes in a brand-new trailer. There’s just one problem: the number of individuals aiming to get their hands on Ghost is quickly mounting. Among them? Well, that’d be 50 Cent’s character Kanan, who seems to have emerged from his brawl with Ghost in the season 2 finale gunning for his former friend’s head.
WATCH: The new trailer for Power’s third season below, and check out the season premiere July 17 at 9 p.m. ET on Starz.
“There’s representation of this lifestyle in every cop film that you’ve seen. But it’s the guy that jumps the gate and ends up in jail, not the one who finds success,” says Jackson on the show’s glossy take on criminal culture. “When you show that side of it, it [speaks] to the rebellious streak in all of us.”
“Together, we’ve really constructed a world where all the choices are deliberate,” shares creator and
showrunner Courtney Kemp of collaborating with Jackson on the forthcoming season’s storyline. “Ghost has no idea how to just be James, and how to let go of his Ghost persona entirely. He doesn’t know how to go straight. The theme of the season is ‘Be careful what you wish for.’ But is there something within Ghost that keeps him from being that person he wants to be?”
On Sunday,President Barack Obama addressed the recent horrific and deadly mass shooting at an LGBT nightclub in Orlando saying that “this was an attack on all of us.”
“We stand with the people of Orlando, who have endured a terrible attack on their city,” the president said in an address to the nation.
POTUS also made a point to stress that this incident was not just an act of terror, but an act of homophobia and transphobia, calling Sunday “an especially heartbreaking day for all our friends — our fellow Americans — who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.”
“The shooter targeted a nightclub where people came together to be with friends, to dance and to sing, and to live,” Obama said. “The place where they were attacked is more than a nightclub — it is a place of solidarity and empowerment where people have come together to raise awareness, to speak their minds, and to advocate for their civil rights.”
He also called for the country to pray for the victims and their families and stressed that we should not turn on each other.
“God give them the strength to bear the unbearable,” he said. “As we go together, we will draw inspiration from heroic and selfless acts — friends who helped friends, took care of each other and saved lives,” the president said. “In the face of hate and violence, we will love one another,” he added.
President Obama didn’t mention gun control per se, but he did ask Americans what kind of “country” do we want to be given the influx of these types of violent and deadly shootings.
“The shooter was apparently armed with a handgun and a powerful assault rifle,” Obama said. “This massacre is therefore a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country we want to be. And to actively do nothing is a decision as well.”
In addition, Obama issued a proclamation Sunday honoring the victims of the attack and ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff at the White House and all public buildings and military bases until sundown Thursday, USA Today noted.
The mass shooting at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, is the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history, leaving at least 50 dead and 53 wounded early Sunday morning.
The sun was blazing and you could see steam rising from the asphalt in the downtown streets of Washington DC. Hundreds of passer-byes engrossed in their own activities, too consumed to notice what was going on around them.
Many hustling to catch their next train, others in random conversations with colleagues, vendor stands on every corner with crowds swarming. For me, this was my lunch hour. The time for me to walk around and just watch and observe the masses. There was so much to ingest when suddenly I look up and see this overwhelming being of energy before me. It was undoubtedly, Mr. Ali. He was walking about the city alone with no escort, no bodyguard and no media. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Was I dreaming? The champ looks so real, so young and in shape just like all the pictures and movies. (Yes, I was having a real kiddie moment) No, it wasn’t a dream at all, it was truly him. So, I nervously approach him and say, “Hello, Mr. Ali, nice to meet you”. He towers over me with a slight hunch and says “This ain’t Embassy”. (Uh, I think) Assuming he was talking about the Embassy Suites, gave him two alternative directions. To be honest, it didn’t really seem like he was retaining the info, so I hurriedly grab my pen and little pink note pad to ask for an autograph before he ventured off.
Mr. Ali graciously signs with a little hand-quivering going on. In my head, I remember the words “Wow, the Greatest of All Times”. It was like floating like a butterfly in sheer amazement to be in this moment. His demeanor was that of a humble giant and when he spoke, he mumbled every expression. His voice wasn’t as prideful as it was in his youth. I stare down at the autograph like it was a shiny new diamond bracelet or something.
That notepad is long gone now, but the memory will last a lifetime. It was truly a #sparklemoment. I was so excited to get back to the office boasting to all of my co-workers. It was something to brag about then and it’s still as precious for me to share now.
Like all mankind, Muhammad Ali had his downfalls, but his activism and influence is widespread. He is the G.O.A.T. Strength in and out of the ring.
During his later years, Mr. Ali did so much for the research and studies of Parkinson’s Disease. Let’s hope that his legacy never goes in vain. Rest in Paradise
One of the exciting things about having a successful blog is the community engagement with the supporters on Facebook. We love being able to share expert information and tips from a variety of contributing editors. This week someone shared notes about a Facebook Business Page training that we’re going to call the 10 Killer Tips For a Facebook Business Page. We could all use help with social media so, we should make the most of it.
1. Make a nice timeline cover photo using a free graphic site and tell who you are, what you’re about, and include pictures there as well about any promos or upcoming events. Check out this example:https://www.facebook.com/kermitoliverrealty/ Notice the professional backdrop photo and icon.
2. Make sure on your MAIN Facebook Page under the “about” section, you are actually linking your biz Facebook Page under the “work” section.
3. Use the big search bar at the top of FB and search something like “pages liked by fans of….” I typed in “wine & fundraising” and found a bunch of local FB groups to join that I didn’t know about.
4. This one is KEY. Overly promotional posts will get LESS priority in News Feed. The FB algorithm will not make your posts visible if they are purely promotional. Best practices ~ posts that are REAL, PERSONAL, HAVE VALUE, and are SIMPLE. Post personal pix too, and non professional pix – ones you take with your cell phone, not always from social sharables – and even post a quick video ~ people like to buy from real people!!! And the funny quotes and wine memes that we often post here are great too.
5. If you follow fellow CEO’s biz pages, always like and try to comment – what drives a posts reach is engagement via likes, shares, & comments.
These tips were shared with the community from my company, however they will work for any consultant regardless of your social selling biz.
9. Did you know you can add apps to your facebook business page? Check out this helpful post for adding apps and graphics to your page.
10. You don’t have to go it alone. Did you know that you can share the task of daily posts and updates with a colleague or friend. Sharing the workload can be increasingly fun and add massive exposure to your page. Assign someone to an administrative role to help with edits or to moderate by going to settings under page roles. You can assign the amount of control for each share.
We have lots of work ahead of our own and we’re excited to see our Facebook business page engagement grow! Do you have a FB business page for your business? Comment, tweet @thesparklepage or tag us so we can check it out and show our support.
It has come as a great shock to many around the world, his untimely death on Thursday. An influx of thousands upon thousands of heartfelt tributes showered in for the ARTIST and have extended — appropriately — on his musical genius.
The words escape our minds when it comes to the extent of sorrow felt around the world for the loss of the Icon. But, this pop star also had a great sense of humor and could literally harmonize the entire Yellow Pages.
The Sparkle Page tributes one of the best demonstrations of which came in 1997 when he appeared on The Muppets as “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.”
After dawning a county accent and running from an alligator dressed as a dog, he shows off his “Musicology” in a skit where he proves that he can get ideas for a song from “anywhere” — hence, the jingle about breakfast food called “Starfish and Coffee.”
It’s happening right here in Atlanta! T.I. & Tiny’s Glamorous Baby Shower is a ‘Royal Event’
and we betcha the baby’s name will be “Prince or Princess”. The name is still a Wild Card, or at least they haven’t revealed it to us.
T.I. and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris celebrated their upcoming bundle of joy with a lavish baby shower on Sunday, and The Sparkle Page has an exclusive look at the revelry compliments of ET.
The celebratory bash was held at The Royal Harris Castle in Atlanta, Georgia, where T.I., Tiny and their children made a grand entrance into the baby shower to excited fanfare.
Before the event, Tiny spoke exclusively about the party, where she said she wanted the baby shower’s theme to be “a royal event,” and it looks like the 40-year-old singer-songwriter certainly got her wish.
Among the guest were Real Housewives of Atlanta stars Phaedra Parks, Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker, Love and Hip Hop Atlanta stars Rasheeda and Kirk Frost, Married to Medicine’s Dr. Jackie Walters and Sarah-Elizabeth Reed, wife of Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.
According to Tiny, who is due in April, her latest pregnancy “has been great,” but this will be the couple’s last kid. The new baby will be Tiny and T.I.’s third child together after welcoming their first son, Clifford “King” Joseph Harris III, in August 2004 and their second son, Major Philant Harris, in May 2008. T.I. has two older sons, Messiah Ya’Majesty Harris and Domani Uriah Harris, and a daughter, Deyjah Imani Harris, from previous relationships. Tiny has an older daughter, Zonnique Jailee Pullins, from a previous relationship as well.
According to the expectant mom, their other kids “are excited” about the upcoming addition.
“They are trying to pitch in at home,” Tiny beamed. “King has already bought the baby gifts. He found some socks the other day for the baby.”
She added that, this time around, her 35-year-old husband is “much more involved” with her pregnancy than ever before.
“I think it’s because it’s a girl,” Tiny explained. “His protective nature is already coming out.”
The Xscape singer also opened up about her pregnancy style, which can be difficult for some celeb moms. But for Tiny, “Dressing hasn’t been tough because I dress comfortably and I don’t wear a lot of heels. I’ve had to get some different pants to accommodate my stomach, but that’s about it.”
17 years is a looong time! No matter the context and in any stretch of human conception, this is an extended period of time. Now, suppose we are dealing with tenure on a job, even that is considered too long. –If we can be correct in saying so this day and age.
If you haven’t been squandering under a rock these past few months, then you’ve heard of the hit phenomenon that is Empire. Queen of the new FOX TV Series, Cookie Lyons (Taraji P. Henson), also mother of three sons, ex-wife and ex-convict, served a 17 year stint in the joint. As the story goes, Cookie is said to have taken a distribution wrap –synonym for drug charge for her, then, husband Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), CEO of Empire Entertainment.
In an earlier episode, Cookie reveals to her natural sister Candice (Vivica A. Fox), that she made sisterly bonds with fellow inmates. Although, we weren’t actually around when Cookie Lyon served her time in the slammer, a recollection of the powerful scene depicts a frightened Cookie returning to her correctional facility to face her past. One thing we can say for Cookie, she always has a purpose. After hearing that her big event, Cookie’s Cook-out wasn’t going to materialize, Cookie decides to perform for her former inmates. There was an underlying hope of securing her next big artist, affectionately known to her real-life fans as ‘DaBrat’. [Kudos to Lee Daniels and team for allowing art to imitate life in this segment]
EmpireBooBooKitty caught up with one of Cookies’ back in the joint cellmates, who in Season 2 Episode 10, stars as Spider (Shayla Day Davenport). Thankfully, she wasn’t wearing the orange onesie slash prison cover-all that she appeared in on the show. This customary prison look doesn’t go well with anyone.
Let’s have some talk time with Shayla Day Davenport. In her scene, she plays the thirsty inmate with eyes for talent, Veronica and hips us all to the knowledge of why Cookies’ old cell block had been shut down. Spider replies, “We 10-bitches- in-a-bunk meant for two!”
It’s no question that playing on a show of its caliber will pivot anyone’s career. Prior to her role on Empire, Shayla Day Davenport is an accomplished actress, writer and producer. Yaaaas!
She made her big debut in a credited speaking role in season 2 of the Fox hit television show Empire (Ep. 210 Et Tu, Brute?). She has also appeared in films such as The Dark Knight starring Heath Ledger and The Express starring Dennis Quaid, as well as season one and two of the Starz television series Boss starring Kelsey Grammer, NBC series Chicago Fire, the MTV series Underemployed, the ABC series Doubt and a commercial for Exxon Mobil. She has also worked as a production assistant for the CW Network show The Next. Shayla’s strengths also include directing and camera operation for multi-camera studio shoots, script writing, EP scheduling and budgeting, and production management.
Shayla attended Aurora University where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. She also attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism with a Minor in African American Studies. Shayla was also a scholarship basketball player at Ole Miss. Credit: Davenport, S. D (2016) Google [Web post]. Retrieved February 17, 2016, from http://shayladaydavenport.com

Davenport goes on to talk about how she is not at all surprised of Empire’s success due to the great acting and writing. She adds, “It’s very addicting and keeps you tuned in every week and I’m really excited that it was picked up for a third season.” She highlights, it was a good thing to showcase Cookie returning to the prison where she’d served her time and though her life has since evolved; Cookie had not forgotten the women left behind. Their struggle as mothers, daughters and sisters doesn’t lessen the fact that they, too, are still human beings. Hopefully, Lee (Daniels) and the team of writers are able to delve into things a little moreso in future episodes. Fingers crossed and heads to the sky!
As aspiring actors, readers and viewers of the show, many of us want to know what advice Davenport could give for people whose dream is to be on Empire. She confirms that it’s not easy! Ya-think? However, it was one of the greatest experiences of her life and you should never give up the hope.
When EmpireBooBooKitty went in for the kill questions, we weren’t even shocked that no upcoming predictions leaked from Davenport. She’s an all-around good sport and the perfect team player. Shayla concludes she will be cool with whatever is played out. Well, can you blame her? The show is just that fun to watch, and we just love all the characters. #teamempire
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton shocked everyone when he revealed he was the proud father of a baby boy. So what did he and his longtime girlfriend Shakia Proctor name their baby boy?
Chosen Sebastian Newton!
Baby Chosen came into the world weighing 9 pounds, 6 ounces and he was 20 inches long. Not too much smaller than his dad as an infant, who was 10 pounds, 9 ounces when he was born in Atlanta in 1989, according to the Charlotte Observer.
“It’s pretty cool,” said Cam. “When you see life coming into existence, it’s a wonderful thing. These past couple of days have been so monumental for me.”
Little Chosen entered the world on Christmas Eve, but his pops didn’t announce his arrival until December 30th because he didn’t want the baby news to be a distraction for his team. How sweet.
And so it has been determined that a Montgomery County judge on Wednesday rejected Bill Cosby’s efforts to have his sexual-assault case dismissed, ruling that prosecutors were not legally bound by a former district attorney’s promise that the entertainer would never be charged in an alleged 2004 attack.
The decision by Judge Steven T. O’Neill clears the way for the only criminal charges filed since a wave of accusations emerged against the 78-year-old celebrity. O’Neill ordered Cosby to return for a March 8 preliminary hearing.
Cosby’s attorneys vowed to appeal. “The decision reached by the court was wrong,” they said in a statement.

DA Kristen Feden, left, leave the courtroom during lunch break on Wednesday, Feb. 3, Exiting the 2016 pre-trial hearing for Mr. Bill Cosby alleged sexual assault case held in Norristown, Pa.(Michael Bryant/The Philadelphia Inquirer via AP, Pool)
Cosby, who sat stoically throughout the hearing, smiled and waved to supporters as he left the Norristown courthouse.
The judge’s ruling, delivered from the bench, capped a marathon two-day proceeding that focused largely on Cosby’s contention that his December arrest violated a 2005 decision by former District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr. not to charge him.
At the time, Castor said, he concluded there was insufficient evidence to prove Andrea Constand’s claims that Cosby had drugged and assaulted her at his Cheltenham mansion a year earlier.
Testifying Tuesday, Castor maintained that his 2005 declaration not to prosecute was meant to help Constand. He testified that all the parties knew about the non-prosecution agreement, which he said stripped Cosby of his ability to plead the Fifth Amendment and paved the way for him to be deposed in Constand’s civil suit.
James P. Schmitt, a lawyer who has advised Cosby for decades, testified Wednesday that he believed Castor gave the entertainer’s criminal attorney, Walter M. Phillips, assurances that the agreement was an “irrevocable decision” that would bind the District Attorney’s Office for years to come.
“A promise of a prosecutor – even an oral promise – is one that is absolute, 100 percent enforceable,” Christopher Tayback, a member of the current defense team, told the judge Wednesday.
Kevin Steele, the current district attorney, who last summer helped revive the case, said any such deal, or the notion it would apply to future prosecutors, amounted to special treatment. “A secret agreement that permits a wealthy defendant to buy his way out of a criminal case isn’t right,” he argued.
Steele also challenged Castor’s testimony, calling it “revisionist history.” He noted that his predecessor’s account changed more than once and questioned why the purported agreement was never put in writing.
The judge acknowledged the dispute amounted to uncharted legal waters. “This is a very unique situation,” he said.
After leaving the charges intact, the judge also denied a motion by Cosby’s lawyers to disqualify Steele and his office from prosecuting the case. The defense contended Steele violated attorney ethics rules last fall by using an implied promise to charge Cosby to win office in an election over Castor.
But even as he rejected their arguments, O’Neill offered a glimpse of another strategy Cosby’s lawyers may consider in an attempt to blunt the charges. If the case gets to trial, he said, they could reintroduce the non-prosecution argument in a move to suppress Cosby’s 2006 deposition, which Steele’s office used to build the current case after portions of it were released last summer.
In it, Cosby acknowledged a sexual encounter with Constand, which he maintained was consensual. He also testified that he had previously acquired Quaaludes with the intent of using them in consensual sexual encounters with women.
Throughout the hearing, O’Neill repeatedly reminded both sides that they were not in court yet to try Constand’s underlying sexual-assault allegations.
During hours on the witness stand Tuesday, Castor rattled off a list of reasons why he thought her credibility would not hold up in court. Chief among them, he said, were inconsistencies in Constand’s statements and her decision to contact a lawyer before she reported her alleged assault to police.
Now 42 and living in Toronto, Constand sued Castor last fall, contending he has repeatedly undermined her credibility for his own political gain.
She did not attend the hearing, but her attorney Dolores Troiani took the stand for prosecutors, and didn’t mince words.
“We had a district attorney in 2005 slamming a victim,” she said, describing Castor’s public statements during the investigation that the case was weak.
She also explained that Constand sought civil counsel because she had heard news reports about women who had legal run-ins with Cosby.
Troiani cited a 1997 incident in which the comedian, with FBI help, secretly recorded a woman who claimed she was his illegitimate daughter in an attempt to extort $40 million. The woman was later sentenced to prison.
After Constand confronted Cosby with her allegations in January 2005, the comedian’s representatives called her and her mother and offered money, an educational trust, and a trip to Florida, Troiani told the court.
The Constands “never asked for any money – Mr. Cosby was the one who interjected money into the conversation,” the lawyer testified. “We thought Cosby – because he had done it before – was setting Andrea up.”
She told the court that during settlement negotiations on Constand’s civil lawsuit the next year, Cosby’s lawyers wanted Constand to promise never to cooperate with a criminal investigation of him. “I was adamant that would not occur,” Troiani said.
Ultimately, Constand agreed only not to initiate any further investigation of her claims. But under the terms of her confidentiality agreement with Cosby, she was free to cooperate if law enforcement contacted her first.
Other details of their settlement agreement, including the amount Cosby paid Constand, have remained confidential.
In July, Troiani said, Steele came to her office and said he would like to reopen the case. Troiani asked for time to talk it over with Constand.
“My client was deeply hurt by the manner in which she was treated” during the first investigation, Troiani said. “And yes, I am passionate and still furious about it.”
Thankfully, we’re all healthy enough to be alive, breathing and reading a blog. But, honestly, it’s still been 21 days and no fix for the new year. How many times have you told yourself that you would no longer be a slave to any circumstance or behavior for the new year?
Exactly how many times did you pre-condition your mind for a challenge, no matter how daunting the fete? Did you also tell yourself that this time you will make it or break it, only to turn around and further convince yourself it’s okay to fail? All else has failed and you are sticking to the old you. Whomever doesn’t like it, phooey on them?
The fact is; it happens! Don’t perpetuate falsehoods stating that it doesn’t. That trick won’t work. It’s called a Jedi mind trick. Smile. Really, old habits are just hard to break.. PERIOD. When situations are tough, the human response is to revert to doing what we already know and feels comfortable and safe.
We have been told for years that a habit is formed by practicing something consecutively over a 21 day span. Many may have even heard of the popular fitness regime “21 Day Fix”. Is it even possible to break a habit in 21 days?
The fact is this, any classic behavioral pattern can be developed if repeated over a course of time. Have you ever stopped to think about how this could possibly work for everyone? Another interesting fact is how 2 people can have the very same objective and different outcomes within the same amount of time. Well, this is because we are all very different and thus, our brains adaptive levels vary.
The overall notion surrounding the process of how to break a bad habit in 21 Days is first recognized from a self-help book published in 1970 entitled “Psycho Cybernetics”. This book is a collection of supporting information based on personal experiences, but were not exactly clinical. The theory caught on and became popular opinion and later backed by forums such as “Reader’s Digest” in the early 80’s.
No matter the struggle, just in case you haven’t been fixed by the 21st day of your new attempt at breaking old habits; it may help all of us to keep in mind that it is a lot easier to make a habit then it is to break a habit. The simple explanation to that is, even though our pattern(s) can weaken without use, the will never go away. They can be reactivated with the slightest of provocation. The best way to counter this is with a new pattern. Form a new response to old urges. Remember, we’re all in this together. Here’s to next 21 Days and the better you!

Not that I’m from Illinois or anything like that. However, often times you may have heard me talk about how delicious popcorn is to me. It can be a little irritating when it gets stuck between your teeth and all, but the taste is so yummy. In case you didn’t know, today is National Popcorn Day and what better way to share my enthusiasm with The Sparklers. Did you even know that Popcorn is healthy for you? There are six major maize types: pod corn, sweet corn, flour corn, dent corn, flint corn, and popcorn. Popcorn kernels come in three shapes: rice, pearl, and South American. Most commercial popcorn is the pearl type. The major trait shared by all types of popcorn kernels is their ability to explode and create a flake when kernels are exposed to heat.f
Contrary to popular belief, popcorn is not the only corn able to pop. Many flint and dent corns also pop, but their flakes are smaller. Additionally, some varieties of rice, milo, millet, and sorghum also pop. Some varieties of quinoa, a sacred Incan food, also pops like popcorn, as does amaranth.f

Have you ever been forced to stop speaking to someone? Ever been told that you can not tell your story or help others around you, share a message that could possibly change someone’s life? If the answer is, NO – Then you are one of the more fortunate between the two of us.
The time I got thrown in Facebook Jail reminds me of being an adolescent and having my parents pick a select group of my peers that were suitable. Well, maybe not, but if you are following along, you can get a clearer picture of the story this way. Many of us all have various reasons for being on Facebook daily. Some of us actually look to Facebook as a vehicle to help generate the fuel to keep our dreams alive. More and more ones are looking to Facebook to make money. http://bit.ly/ThrowninFacebookJail
As an online marketer, you must be consistent as with all things it takes discipline. Despite what anyone tells you, making money online is not easy. It involves fierce dedication and daily practices. Making money on Facebook is no different. The time I got thrown in Facebook jail was basically Facebook’s way of giving me a warning to say “Slow Down Missy!” (Incidentally, My grandmother used to call me that as a child; Missy). The message was clear to me I could look at this situation in two different ways. First, it did not matter how strong my commitment levels were, doing the same thing over and over someone is bound to notice. As the saying goes, All Attention Isn’t Good! Everything must be done in moderation. What do I mean by that? At some point my strong objectives became offensive. In other words, Facebook deemed my service to excellence as “abusive”. Or second, with over 75 million users daily, Facebook has decided to just be mean. http://bit.ly/ThrowninFacebookJail
Now, depending on how much you post on Facebook you might have noticed that they changed their algorithm yet again, they have been on a penalization spree for a couple of weeks now, setups that were working fine prior to the recent update (November 2015) stopped working and many accounts got penalized for 1 or 2 weeks. They are constantly tuning their algorithm but in our case, they are the powers-that-be, therefore, it is best advised that you stay in compliance. I have several articles that I will share with you in upcoming posts that will also explain how to keep your account(s) safe.
The time away from Facebook really gave me an opportunity to focus on the circumstance. I was overzealous; even though my click-thru rate was insurmountable, my message got lost in my approach. You never want to come across as “spammy” with so many attempts people just turn you off and never want to hear from you again. In my defense, I had found a new marketing tool that was simply awesome and I couldn’t wait to share it with all my industry friends on Facebook. Surely, I had something to simplify their lives. A tool that was going to help them stay organized and ahead of schedule. I had a way to deliver timely information to people and go full-throttle no matter the size of the audience. I had learned to automate my social media experience. Now, that’s not to say that there currently are no automation systems available. Nope, this wasn’t it. The exciting part is that as a Social Media Professional, I have had to use at least three different tools to keep up with all of my postings, metrics and platforms. Nothing beats the ability to have it all on one system. A total of six (6) platforms and one (1) automation system and I can post images, links, etc. This system is truly, Amazing! http://bit.ly/ThrowninFacebookJail
Overall, I was able to take this lesson to educate myself on the tolerances of Facebook (You really want to stay on their good side and be in strict compliance) and put my social-life on autopilot. I will still be seeing you around on Facebook, but the approach will mystify you and Facebook gurus won’t even be able to sense my presence, all while keeping my clients happy and being equally as effective. http://bit.ly/ThrowninFacebookJail
Thank you for reading my article. I hope that you were able to find the value. If you think that you or someone you know might benefit from using the same automation system for the six (6) major social channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Instagram, Google + and Instagram, please do not hesitate to connect with me directly via email or in the comment section of the post. http://bit.ly/ThrowninFacebookJail
Unfortunately though, even with a new hire, juggling and managing different social media accounts on so many social media platforms successfully, is not for the faint-hearted.
However, you definitely need to get off on the right foot on your social media management, or you could do more harm than good to your reputation and that of your brand.
Therefore, in this article, I will share with you, 7 insanely HUGE advantages or benefits of outsourcing your social media management to a qualified professional agency. Here we go!
Advantages or Benefits Of Outsourcing Your Social Media Management
As you consider each of these advantages of outsourcing your social media management, think candidly and sincerely on how these benefits of social media can skyrocket your overall marketing campaigns and boost your profits.
Let that marinate a little bit.
#1. Outsourcing Social Media Management Saves You Money
When you outsource your social media marketing management to a professional agency, you save money by getting rid of the costs associated with hiring and training new team members. Not only that, you don’t have to worry about payroll and related costs.
Interestingly, traditional methods of marketing that used to get results are not getting any traction in the age of social media. Companies and individuals that spent lots of money on telephone book ads are getting better results when they channel such resources to outsourced social media marketing.
It costs a company money and reputation of the brand when non-professionals are allowed to take on the important task of promoting and engaging with your prospects and customers.
#2. Social Media Management Is HUGE, But For Most, It Is Not A Full-Time Job
If you run a big corporation, or a multinational company, you may justify the cost of managing or running your own social media in-house. Since most companies are small, devoting 5-20 hours a week on such account may be all it takes to manage the social media interactions successfully on different platforms.
You may be inclined to think that you can get away with adding those few hours and social media management to your existing employee’s duties.
Please keep in mind that delegating the all important responsibility of managing your social media accounts to an employee who already has other responsibilities could actually do you more harm than good.
On the hand, an effective outsourced social media management strategy can ridiculously boost your brand awareness.
As you increase your brand awareness, you skyrocket your revenues while saving money in the whole process.
In addition, outsourcing your social media management, makes it possible for you to get the hours and experience you need without breaking the bank.
A major and obvious advantage of outsourcing your social media management is that it saves you a lot of time. Since most business owners are involved in all aspects of their business, outsourcing their social media frees up more time for them to devote on their core business.
The invaluable expertise you can get from a social media management professional agency or social media consultant, cannot be over emphasized. When you work with a professional social media agency, you have access to their insight, knowledge and years of social media marketing experience that is transferable to your business.
Additionally, a social media management company has tons of clients from whom it had professional working knowledge of what works and what doesn’t.
Therefore, as tempting as it is to assign social media management duties to your interns or college kids, keep in mind that this is a professional business marketing strategy. It can’t be delegated to a college kid with no social media experience.
Since this is business communication that we’re talking about, it is better left to a professional social media management team.

#5. It Is The Fastest Way to Grow Your Team
As an individual or a small business, outsourcing your social media gives you with instant access to skilled manpower. Further more, there are many social media management tools that allow you and your team to work together in your social media campaigns.
By taking advantage of experienced social media professionals, you can grow your awesome team incredibly fast.
#6. Outsourced Social Media Management Helps You Embrace New Technologies
New technology is being developed all the time, and the social media landscape in particular is not an exception in rapid development.
For instance, in the past 6 months alone, you might have noticed the arrival of three new video/broadcasting platforms:
Periscope –Periscope lets you explore the world through the eyes of somebody else. It was bought by Twitter a few months ago for $100 million and it is changing the social media landscape in a huge way.
Meerkat – Meerkat is a mobile app that enables users to do live video streaming through their mobile device. Once signed up, Meerkat users have the option of connecting their Facebook and Twitter accounts. Then you’ve got Blab.
Blab– Ever wanted to convene your own grand council on any topic that tickles your fancy? Blab is a platform where four people can video chat at the same time while an audience watches and comments. The person watching and commenting can easily and instantly switch places with one of the four on the video chat.
Now, add those networks to the six or seven main social platforms, plus all the messenger apps (which are social platforms), then add email inboxes and am sure you’re getting the picture.
So you can appreciatively understand why an experienced social media management agency that keeps abreast of cutting edge technologies will help you and your company in navigating successfully through the latest developments of the online world.
#7. You Get Increased Posting Speed
Since the internet is open 24/7, your dedicated outsourced social media management agency can help you to engage with your customers a bit faster. In addition, since your outsourced team is on a different time zone, you’re always on-mode, making it ridiculously easy to reach out to your prospects or customers.
Outsourcing makes it easy to send your messages faster.
As you publish your content at a faster rate, you gain more re-tweets and shares faster through your outsourced agency. This makes it mind blowingly easy for your fans to interact and share your contents with their peers. It also increases the rate at which they re-share your content.
The beauty of this is that more people get to read your posts more, in less time.
